HONEY AS ENERGY SOURCE
The Nutrition Research Laboratory at the University of Memphis describes honey as the best energy source alternative when exercising, since it is rich in fructose and glucose, and it provides a high energy content to athletes which delays the appearance of fatigue because the liver works less when transforming it into glucose due to the fact that it is predigested by the enzymatic contribution of the bee. This way it is immediately absorbed in the organism.
Honey also contains more than 60 relevant substances for an athlete such as vitamins, calcium, potassium, and folic acid, among others.
The Ulmo tree is a rather tall tree with white flowers found in the south of Chile. In addition to having a unique, world-known flavor, its honey has a great healing power. This allows a fast regeneration of damaged tissue due to sports activity.
A study conducted by the University of Chester (England) showed that a drink made with this honey is as efficient as a commercial energy drink. Besides achieving an equivalent performance, the energy drink and the honey drink were more efficient by far than water to keep an appropriate level of blood sugar and a low body temperature.
“Because the glycemic index of the honey is lower, it does not produce Sharp rises of insulin”.
